Monique “Moe” Bryant

About Moe

Monique “Moe” Bryant moved to Arlington 13 years ago because of Arlington Public Schools (APS)’s stellar reputation. A mother of two, including a Wakefield High School graduate and an elementary student at the Montessori Public School of Arlington, Moe is a committed advocate for our schools. She co-chaired the 2024 APS School Bond campaign and has actively volunteered at Drew Elementary, Montessori, Swanson Middle School, and Wakefield High School. Moe is the Executive Director of Challenging Racism, an Arlington-based non-profit devoted to building a just and anti-racist society through compassionate dialogue. Moe lives with her husband, kids, and dog along the Columbia Pike corridor.

  • Moe’s father, raised in Arlington’s Green Valley neighborhood, and mother, a volunteer with multiple community groups, instilled in her a commitment to service.  Moe lives her values through her volunteerism. She co-hosted Arlington’s Juneteenth Celebration, advocated for special education families, tutored reading at Virginia Gardens, and advised a former School Board Member on his African American Kitchen Cabinet.  When APS athletes were subjected to racial epithets and harassment, Moe organized #PlayFairNow, a grassroots campaign that garnered 15,000 petition signatures and led to her testifying before a committee of the Virginia House of Delegates.

  • In 2023, after a decade as a volunteer, board member and facilitator for Challenging Racism, Moe was named its executive director. Challenging Racism leads participants through facilitated conversations about organizational culture, systemic inequities and equitable policies–while training participants to lead similar discussions within their communities. Moe not only oversees the organization’s curriculum development, but has personally led conversations at APS schools including H.B. Woodlawn and  Discovery. Outside of APS, Moe has facilitated Challenging Racism conversations for the National Education Association and National Park Service, as well local organizations such as Mothers of North Arlington (MONA), regional school systems, local churches, interfaith meetings and other religious organizations.

  • Prior to leading Challenging Racism, Moe managed a successful medical office, seeing it through a tripling in clients, new budget processes and an office acquisition and renovation. Moe attended Howard University.
